Davao landslide death toll jumps to 16 — NDRRMC

MANILA, Philippines — The death toll from the floods and landslides in the Caraga and Davao region has reportedly reached 16 people, according to National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) spokesperson Edgar Posadas on Monday.

The death toll rose by one, with the NDRRMC reporting 15 deaths on Sunday. The fatalities are still under confirmation, said Posadas.

“Unfortunately po, mayroon tayong kino-komoperma na 16 na casualty,” said Posadas in the Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon public briefing.

According to Posadas, 12 deaths came from the landslide incident in Mt. Diwata in Monkayo, Davao de Oro.

Posadas added that two people died in Davao City, one died in Davao Oriental and another one died in Davao Occidental.

“Sa ngayon po, we have a total of 152,6000 plus affected families or 600,000 plus individuals po ito in 388 barangays,” said Posadas.

The landslides were triggered by inclement weather due to the shear line.
