Palace wants impeachment trial to end soon

Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda

MANILA, Philippines – Malacañang wants the impeachment trial to end soon, saying Congress has important pending legislation to attend to.

Secretary Edwin Lacierda, President Benigno Aquino III’s spokesman, made the remarks on Monday shortly before the Senate impeachment court trying Chief Justice Renato Corona resumed its session on Monday afternoon.

“It is to everyone’s interest that the trial end at a certain point in time and it would be preferable if it will end soon since we’ve already presented and the defense is already presenting their case already,” Lacierda said in the day’s news briefing at the Palace.

We’ve always maintained that let the truth come out, let the senators decide and let’s move on and let the legislators do the other equally important acts of legislation,” he added.
