MANILA, Philippines — Quezon City (QC) Mayor Joy Belmonte called for more small businessmen and tricycle operators to participate in Paleng-QR PH Plus program, the city’s  digital payment ecocystem that will now cover eight public markets. 

Majority of QC market vendors and members of Tricycle drivers and Operators Associations (TODA)  are already participating and now ready to transact with digitally ready QCitizens on their daily market chores.

The Paleng-QR plus program aims for faster and convenient digital payment transactions in all QC’s public markets and public transportation but initially with tricycles.

“This cashless option is for QCitizens who worry about paper bills or exact amounts when they purchase food or goods and we have installed more than 3,500 GoWifi hotspots in different areas of the city  to ensure internet connectivity and smooth online transactions,” Belmonte said.

She added, “since the start, our vision was for digitalization and automation and this is why almost 100 percent of the city’s processes and services are already digital and online.”

“We are now closer to attaining digital financial inclusion for all QCitizens,” she added.

Paleng-QR was conceptualized and implemented by the partnership of the QC-LGU, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and GCash.  

The project was unveiled at Project 4 Public market by Belmonte with BSP Financial Inclusion Office Acting Director Maynard Bryan Mojica, QC-Market Development and Administration Development OIC Margie Santos  and GCash Chief Compliance Officer Cef Sison.
