She may have yet to decide whether to run for Taguig mayor next year, but Makati City Mayor Abby Binay has already chosen her successor.
“It’s clear. There are still many projects that need to be done after 2025, and there’s only one person I trust to do them, and that’s none other than my husband,” she said on Thursday, referring to Makati Rep. Luis Campos Jr.
“He will make sure to continue many projects because if not, he won’t be able to come home,” Binay told reporters in jest.
The mayor serving her last term said she was still awaiting a sign on her next political plans, including running for mayor in Taguig, which recently acquired jurisdiction over 10 “Embo” barangays formerly under Makati.
Binay said she would decide by March this year as she was considering several options. “I always say, maybe I’m lucky because I have many options. I can go national, I can go for Congress, run for Senate, I can run for mayor. I can decide not to run. I can become a full-time wife. I can study. I’m lucky to have such options, so it’s hard to choose what path to take,” she added. —RUSSEL P. LORETO
