LUCENA CITY — Two persons died while being treated in a hospital on Thursday after they were shot by a gunman on Wednesday night, Jan. 17, while at the wake of a murder victim in San Antonio town in Quezon province.

The Quezon police said in a report that Juan Isagani Mangundayao and his nephew, Juan Leo Mangundayao, were in a drinking session with other friends during the wake of Jay-R Matanguihan in the town center at 11:10 p.m.

The still-unidentified man armed with a handgun suddenly appeared and without provocation, repeatedly shot the victims in different parts of their bodies. The gunman fled after the shooting.

The victims were taken to a hospital in neighboring Lipa City, Batangas, but they died on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment.

At early dawn on Jan. 12, Matanguihan, and Mark Johndel Robles, both residents of the locality, were in a drinking spree with their friends inside a meat shop in Barangay San Jose, also in the locality.

A certain “Akong” arrived aboard a motorcycle, approached Matanguihan and Robles, pulled out a handgun, and without provocation repeatedly shot the duo.

The victims died on the way to a hospital in Lipa City. The suspect fled and remained at large.

Captain Hubert Rueben Jabrica, San Antonio police chief, said they were looking into the possibility that the killings of the four victims were related.

“We’re still conducting further investigation,” Jabrica said in a phone interview.
