The fire broke out in a market in San Fernando, La Union, on January 11.
“The DSWD augmented 1,500 family food packs to the city government of San Fernando so that they will be able to provide additional assistance to the affected market vendors whose stalls were razed to the ground,” DSWD Assistant Secretary Romel Lopez said.
The DSWD added that it also is coordinating with the local government to give assistance to victims of another fire in Barangay San Juan, in Taytay, Rizal.
According to DSWD, 43 families or 200 individuals lost their homes in the fire on Monday. They are currently staying in a temporary shelter.
Lopez added that the department will provide food packs to the affected families.
“The Field Office under Director Barry Chua is ready to assist the affected families. We assure them and our counterparts in the municipality of Taytay that the DSWD will deliver food packs to ensure that all affected families will receive enough assistance,” Lopez added.
