Palace: PH recognizes One China Policy
MANILA, Philippines — Following assertions that President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. violated political commitments to Beijing, Malacanang on Tuesday echoed the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) statement: the Philippines recognizes the One China Policy.
“Refer to the DFA statement released early today,” said Presidential Communications Office Sec. Cheloy Garafil.
President Marcos earlier congratulated Taiwan president-elect Lai Ching-te and said that he looks forward to close collaboration with him.
“We look forward to close collaboration, strengthening mutual interests, fostering peace, and ensuring prosperity for our peoples in the years ahead,” Marcos said in an X post.
Following Marcos’ statement, the DFA stated that this was Marcos’ way of thanking Taiwan for hosting almost 200,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

Philippine Ambassador to China Jaime FlorCruz was summoned by China following Marcos’ statement. Beijing warned the Philippines not to play with fire.
“President Marcos gravely violated the one-China principle, went against political commitments to China, and interfered in China’s internal affairs,” said a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson.
