THE LION TIGER Aerosol-University of San Jose-Recoletos Jaguars continued their winning roll as they notched two wins over the weekend to end their first-round stint in the 6th Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. Partner’s Cup at the Cebu Coliseum.
Lion Tiger first thwarted the San Marino Corned Tuna-University of Southern Philippines Foundation Panthers, 88-70, in a game late Saturday evening before capping off the weekend with an 88-78 victory over the Kia Motors-Cebu Institute of Technology-University Wildcats yesterday.
The Jaguars ended the first round of eliminations with a 3-1 (win-loss) record, with their only loss coming at the hands of the defending champions Prime Asia-University of the Visayas Green Lancers.
Lion Tiger was on their game from the very start as they zoomed right ahead, 23-12, behind the offense of Jayson Olbedado and Abulaiz Suliman, who combined for 18 in that stretch. That set the winning tempo for a lead that they did not relinquish until the very end.
Olbedado led the way for the Jaguars with 17 and got ample contributions from the rest of the squad with James Regalado adding 15 and Miguel Tabaloc and Suliman chipping in 12 and 11, respectively. Floyd Taboada paced Kia Motors with 11 as they finished the round with an even 2-2 record.
In the Lion Tiger-San Marino match, Renato Abing got 18 while Olbedado provided his usual numbers with 16 markers. San Marino finished the first round with an 0-4 record. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
