MANILA, Philippines — Some areas in Luzon will continue to experience chilly evenings due to the effects of the northeast monsoon or “amihan,” state meteorologists said on Monday.

The northeast monsoon is also affecting some parts of Visayas, which may result in slightly lower temperatures in the cities along the country’s northern section.

Temperatures in Metro Manila may range from 23 to 30 degrees Celsius and have previously reached as low as 20 degrees Celsius.

“We are expecting that at least in the following days, the northeast monsoon will continue to prevail so we can enjoy the slightly chilly [temperatures], especially the cool evenings,” specialist Obet Badrina said in a public report.

Likewise, Pagasa noted that the northeast monsoon may bring cloudy skies with light rains in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Quezon, and Bicol Region.

The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon, the state weather bureau forecast.

Meanwhile, the shear line, or the convergence of cold and warm winds, may bring light to moderate rainfall in Southern Leyte, Caraga, Northern Mindanao, and the Davao Region.

Isolated rains are also forecast to prevail over parts of the Zamboanga Peninsula, Soccksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
