Magnitude 4.8 earthquake hits off Sarangani Island

MANILA, Philippines —  A magnitude 4.8 earthquake struck off the coast of Sarangani Island in Sarangani municipality, Davao Occidental, on Friday morning.

The temblor occurred at 10:05 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said in an advisory.

It was initially reported at magnitude 4.5, then upgraded to 4.8 a few hours later.

The quake was 113 kilometers (km.) southeast of Sarangani Island.

The tremor was tectonic in origin, with a depth of focus of 17 km.

No intensities were recorded from the event.
