A total of 985 Philippine National Police personnel have been dismissed since the start of President Marcos’ administration, PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. reported on Thursday.
Of the total, 108 were forced to leave the service due to drugs, he said, including 65 who tested positive while the others were involved in different drug cases.
Acorda also reported that from July 1, 2022, to Jan. 3 this year, a total of 3,932 police personnel were slapped with administrative penalties, 288 of them over illegal drugs. But the PNP chief said he was not alarmed by the number of affected policemen because they represented only a fraction of the 232,000-strong police force. —DEXTER CABALZA
