Burglar picked wrong Quezon City store

He picked the wrong store to rob.

A still unidentified burglar was killed in Quezon City before dawn Sunday after breaking into a sari-sari store that turned out to be owned by a police officer.

The robber had already entered the store in Project 6 around 3:35 a.m. when one of the neighbors saw him and alerted the owner, Senior Police Officer 1 Hector de Veyra of the QC police district’s intelligence unit.

The police officer grabbed his service firearm, rushed to the store, which was a few meters away from his house, and shot the intruder

several times.

De Veyra had to fire at the suspect when the latter drew a foot-long knife and tried to stab the officer, said SPO1 Eric Lazo of the homicide section.

The suspect was taken to the East Avenue Medical Center and was declared dead at around 4:15 a.m.

A fragmentation grenade was found in the suspect’s pants, inside the right pocket, by an attendant as the body was being moved to the hospital morgue, Lazo added.

The male suspect had several tattoos, including one on the back that read “Bryan Sarmiento.”—Nancy C. Carvajal with Eric Laurenz Enriquez
