MANILA, Philippines — More than one hundred organizations filed their manifestation of intent to participate in the 2025 midterm elections , the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Thursday.
The Comelec said that a total of 106 sectoral parties, sectoral organizations, political parties, and coalitions submitted their statements of intent to participate in the party-list system of representation elections for the 2025 national and local elections as of December 29, 2023.
Each party list group was only allowed to file one manifestation of intent to participate, Comelec Chairman George Erwin Garcia told reporters.
“‘Pag more than one ibig sabihin may internal conflict sa party or organization. Kaya nagkakaroon ng intra party dispute that will be resolved by Comelec,” Garcia said in a Viber message.
(More than one means there is an internal conflict in the party or organization. So there is an intra party dispute that will be resolved by Comelec.)
The midterm elections will be held in May 2025.
Garcia on Wednesday said that the Comelec expects around 3 million new registered voters in addition to the current 68 million voters before the 2025 elections.
He also reminded the public that voter registration will run from February 12 to September 30.
Garcia added that those whose permanent address is not where they currently live would soon be allowed to register anywhere they want through Comelec’s “register anywhere” project.
He, however, stressed that that company identification cards will no longer be accepted for voter registration purposes, and that only government-issued ones will be honored.
