“I have, however, warned His Excellency that even after his time as president, I will still be knocking at his door to ask for assistance whenever I feel the need,” added Marcos.

Marcos lauded Widodo’s leadership as well as his chairmanship of the 2023 Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) Summit.

“I furthermore would like to congratulate Indonesia for the successful hosting and excellent arrangements as Chairman last year. We hope to emulate your success once we assume the Asean Chair in 2026,” said Marcos.

The Philippines took over the Chairmanship from Myanmar as the country grappled with internal violence after its democratically elected government was overthrown by a military junta.
