MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Immigration (BI) arrested a Taiwanese fugitive on Monday in Quezon City.

The BI said Yang Chia-Le, 26,  is  wanted in Taiwan for fraud.

Yang was allegedly a member of a fraud syndicate from December 2020 to January 2021. A warrant for his arrest was issued by the  Taiwan Taipei District Prosecutors Office in April 2022.

The BI added that Yang is said to be involved in at least two cases of fraud, and will serve an imprisonment period of more than two years upon his deportation.

He has also been in the Philippines since August 2022, and was classified as an overstaying alien.

“Fraudsters like Yang attempt to hide in the Philippines and sometimes attempt to transfer their operations here […] We will not allow such things to happen, hence our tight cooperation with foreign governments who give us information about wanted fugitive remains.  We will continue to hunt these fugitives down and deport them,” BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said.

Yang will be deported, and added to the BI’s blacklist.
