Ex-party-list rep from farmers’ sector backs chacha via people’s initiative
MANILA, Philippines — A former member of the House of Representatives who comes from the farmers’ sector has expressed support for amending the 1987 Constitution through people’s initiative.
According to former Magsasaka Party-list Representative Argel Cabatbat, this mode to change the charter is being preferred by multiple organizations in the field of agriculture.
“We, in the farming sector, are honored to announce our active role in spearheading the People’s Initiative,” Cabatbat said in a statement.
“This is a movement deeply rooted in empowering the Filipino people and is supported by the unwavering commitment of our farmers’ groups, civic organizations, and local government leaders,” he stressed.
The former lawmaker added the people’s initiative aims to “streamline the process of constitutional amendments” so that the voices of Filipinos will be heard and taken into account by policy makers.
