Approval, trust ratings for Marcos, Duterte slightly up

MANILA, Philippines — The approval and trust ratings of both President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte remained almost unchanged in the recent Pulse Asia’s Ulat ng Bayan nationwide survey.

The survey conducted from Dec. 3 to Dec. 7 showed that Marcos’ approval score increased by 3 percentage points from 65 percent in September 2023 to 68 percent in December 2023. On the other hand, his trust rating went up by 2 percentage points from 71 percent to 73 percent during the same period.

Duterte also experienced a point increase in approval score — from 73 percent to 74 percent — and a hike of 3 percentage points in trust rating from 75 percent to 78 percent during the same period.

On the other hand, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri scored a 49 percent approval rating in December 2023, a point decrease compared to 50 percent in September 2023. His trust rating was at 51 percent, up from 49 percent during the same period.

Another of the country’s highest-ranking officials, Speaker Martin Romualdez also saw a decline in approval rating to 39 percent from 41 percent although his trust rating went up to 40 percent from 38 percent.

The Ulat ng Bayan survey used face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adult respondents and had a margin of error of plus-or-minus 2.8 percentage points for national estimates and plus-or-minus 5.7 percentage points for each geographic area.
