Comelec holds new bidding for vote machines

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will conduct a second and final round of public bidding today, Jan. 8, to find a technology provider for the 2025 midterm national elections.

The Comelec Special Bids and Awards Committee (SBAC) gave suppliers until Jan. 8 morning to submit their bids for the P18.8-billion contract.

The bids will also be opened on the same day. The Comelec SBAC declared the first round of public bidding last Dec. 14 a failure since the lone bidder, a consortium led by Miru Systems Co. Ltd. of South Korea, was found to lack some required documents.

Miru Systems and its three Filipino partner firms may still participate in the second bidding.
