PCG: Crew members of vessel that ran aground off Batangas safe

MANILA, Philippines — All eight crew members on board a vessel that ran aground off Calatagan, Batangas, on Friday are safe and in good physical condition, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Southern Tagalog said.
According to the PCG, MV Group Seven drifted into a shallow area approximately 25 meters away from Calatagan Port at Barangay Poblacion 4.
It was en route to Daang Hari, Navotas for dry-docking purposes, carrying a Special Permit to Navigate issued by the Maritime Industry Authority.
“During maneuvers at Calatagan Port, the vessel drifted into a shallow area, resulting in grounding in the muddy section. The weather and sea conditions were reported as light to moderate winds with clear skies and moderate seas during the incident,” the PCG said in a Facebook post.

Immediately after the incident, the Coast Guard Sub Station Calatagan directed the vessel’s captain to have all crew members disembark, it added.
Article continues after this advertisement“Upon inspection, it was confirmed that the propeller remains intact and in good condition. All crew members have been successfully disembarked and are on standby at Calatagan Port,” the PCG said.
Article continues after this advertisementIt also noted in its post that the captain is still waiting for an optimal high tide condition for vessel extraction.
No oil slicks were reported within the incident’s vicinity, it added.
“CGSS Calatagan personnel are actively coordinating with the owner and Master of the vessel to file a Marine Protest and advise on coordinating with MARINA for a seaworthiness assessment,” the PCG added.
