AFP hails completion of joint maritime exercise with US

MANILA, Philippines — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Thursday said that it completed the second Maritime Cooperative Activity (MCA) with the United States Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM).

The activity ran from January 3 to 4.

AFP Chief of Staff Romeo Brawner Jr. said that the activity boosted the abilities of both forces to respond to threats that may arise in the maritime domain.

“The maritime cooperative activity included exercises that allowed for the exchange of best practices. This improved the proficiency of both armed forces in responding to potential threats in the maritime domain,” Brawner said.

During the activity, the AFP used its patrol vessels BRP Gregorio Del Pilar and  BRP Ramon Alcaraz, as well as its AW109 helicopter, while the USINDOCPACOM used its Carrier Strike Group-1, with the Nimitz class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson.

Brawner added that the activity will strengthen security and stability in the region, as well as partnership between the two forces.

“The maritime cooperative activity reaffirms the strong bond and enduring partnership between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the United States Indo-Pacific Command. This collaborative effort not only enhances the capabilities of both forces but also contributes to the overall security and stability of the region,” he added.
