DOH: NCR hospitals on ‘code white’ alert for Traslacion 2024

MANILA, Philippines — All hospitals in Metro Manila will be placed under a “Code White” alert status starting January 5 to 11, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Thursday in preparation for the Traslacion or Feast of the Black Nazarene on January 9.
Code White Alert, the DOH explained, means that all hospital personnel, including surgeons and nurses, are ready to respond to emergencies.
The health ministry added that eight of its emergency response teams, each equipped with ambulances, will be strategically deployed along the Traslacion route to provide emergency medical services to devotees participating in the annual feast.
The emergency response teams will be distributed in the following locations:
- Quirino Grandstand;
- Roxas Blvd. cor Ayala (National Museum & Fine Arts);
- Ayla Blvd. cor Taft (Philippine Normal University);
- Ayala Blvd. cor San Marcelino;
- San Sebastian Church with Reachout;
- Villarica, Quezon Blvd.;
- Quinta Market; and
- Paterno, Quezon Blvd.
“This strategic deployment aims to ensure prompt and efficient emergency medical assistance, covering significant segments and quadrants to enhance the safety and well-being of all participants throughout the event,” DOH said.

- Wear face masks and ensure good airflow;
- Consider participating from home as the celebration leads to crowding that poses greater health risks;
- Refrain from touching and kissing the figures and statues due to the risk of transmission of communicable diseases;
- Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration; and
- Avoid prolonged exposure to heat to prevent the risk of heat stroke.
The Traslacion is the procession of the life-size image of the Black Nazarene from the Quirino Grandstand in Rizal Park to the Quiapo Church.
