LUCENA CITY — An 81-year-old woman died while 25 others were injured when the passenger jeepney they were riding fell into a roadside canal in San Francisco town in Quezon province on Tuesday.
Quezon police reported Wednesday, Jan. 3, that the jeepney driven by alias “Brian,” 35, was negotiating the San Andres-San Francisco highway around 3:30 p.m. when the vehicle lost its brakes.
The wayward jeepney, loaded with 25 passengers, consequently fell into a shallow canal on the roadside and rested on its right side.
All passengers, including the driver, suffered injuries and were taken by rescuers to a hospital in the town center.
However, one of the passengers identified as alias “Juanita,” a resident of the locality, was declared dead on arrival.
The police are conducting further investigation.
