MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reminded Filipinos to dispose of their garbage properly following Monday’s New Year’s celebrations.
In a social media post on Tuesday, the MMDA reported that it collected a large volume of trash during its clean-up at Rizal Park in Manila, where a large crowd gathered to welcome 2024.
(Most of the items collected were bottles, plastic, leftover food, straw, and cardboard left by the tourists who visited the area.)
Photos taken during the clean-up operation show piles of plastic and paper bags left all over Rizal Park.
(The agency’s appeal to the public this New Year is to be responsible stewards of the environment by properly disposing of trash get into recycling.)
The National Parks Development Committee said Rizal Park in Manila is among the most visited parks in the country, logging up to 109,000 visitors on December 31 last year.
