MANILA, Philippines —  Seventy six (76) percent of reported fire in Manila in 2023 occurred in residential areas.

According to Manila Public Information Office (MPIO), 76 percent or 61 out of a total of 80 events of structures burning in the city happened in homes.

“For the fire incident report, we responded to a total of 80 fire incidents for the year 2023, of which the majority is in residential areas (76.25% or 61 out of 80), followed by commercial establishments (17.5% or 14 out of 80),” it said in a Facebook post.

MPIO also noted most of the blazes took place in District 5 where 24 of the emergencies transpired.

District 5 is the southern part of Manila that covers Ermita, Intramuros, Malate, Port Area, San Andres and Paco. 

District 1 followed where 23 of 80 episodes unfolded.

District 1 is the western part of the city that includes Tondo, Dagupan Street, Estero de Vitas and Estero de Sunog Apog near Navotas.
