New Year revelries generally peaceful — PNP
MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday reported that the New Year’s celebrations and festivities were generally peaceful.
“As to the assessment, generally peaceful nationwide,” PNP spokesperson Col. Jean Fajardo said told reporters in a Viber message.
Based on the PNP’s January 1, 2024 data, a total of 808 firecracker-related injuries and two stray bullet victims were reported spanning the Christmas and New Year festivities from December 16 to December 31.
The national police force also recorded 520 injuries and four deaths, including one of the stray bullet victims.
The PNP also reported the arrest of 41 individuals for illegal possession of firearms and sale or use of prohibited firecrackers and the confiscation of eight firearms.
