TUGUEGARAO CITY – Health authorities in Cagayan Valley recorded 18 firecracker-related injuries in its monitoring before the New Year revelry.
The Department of Health-Region 2 reported on Sunday, Dec. 31, that four additional cases of fireworks-related injuries were logged from 6 a.m. between Friday, Dec. 29, and Saturday, Dec. 30.
Most of the cases were males with age ranging from 7 to 29 years old. Some of the cases came from Isabela and Cagayan provinces.

“Most (89 percent) are active users. Ten of the cases occurred at home. Thirteen of the cases had blast/burn injury without amputation and five cases had eye injury while one case had blast/burn injury with amputation,” the health regional office statement added.
Seventeen patients were treated and discharged while one patient is still confined at a hospital.
The 18 cases recorded this year was six cases higher compared to the same period in 2022.
