Bongbong Marcos leads Rizal Day commemoration rites in Luneta

MANILA, Philippines — In commemoration of the 127th death anniversary of Jose Rizal, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. honored the national hero in Luneta Park in Manila.

Marcos led the ceremony at the Rizal Monument, laying flowers at the statue.

The President was joined by First Lady Liza Marcos, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, and Armed Forces of the Philippines Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner.

Rizal Day remembers the day that the hero doctor was killed by Spaniards after he was designated as a rebel by the Spanish colonial government. Rizal authored the historic books, Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, which helped sowed the seeds for the Philippine Revolution.
