Number of persons injured by fireworks is at 96

MANILA, Philippines — The number of individuals who sustained fireworks-related injuries (FWRI) two days before New Year’s Eve has increased to 96, Department of Health (DOH) reported on Friday.

DOH said eight new FWRI cases were added to the previous figure of 88, bringing the total to 96.

The eight victims are aged five to 49 years old.

Seven of them are males.

A woman from Central Luzon has been added to the list.

She experienced hearing loss after a passive exposure to Kwitis or skyrocket.

Out of the 96, 33 injured individuals (34 percent) come from National Capital Region (NCR).

The figure is followed by Central Luzon with 12 victims (12 percent).

Ilocos region comes next with 12 cases (12 percent).

Soccsksargen has six (six percent).

Bicol region and Western Visayas have five cases each (five percent).

All incidents happened either at home or in the streets.

The pyrotechnics the victims used were Boga, 5-Star, Kwitis, Piccolo, Pla-Pla, Whistle Bomb, and Luces.
