4.9-magnitude quake hits municipality in Davao Occidental
MANILA, Philippines — A 4.9-magnitude earthquake shook Jose Abad Santos Municipality in Davao Occidental on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
The temblor occurred at 9:35 a.m., 12 kilometers (km) southeast of Jose Abad Santos.
It was earlier reported by Phivolcs at magnitude 4.8 and was upgraded a few hours later.

Reported intensities were felt in the following areas, according to the state seismologist:
- Intensity V – Malungon, Sarangani
- Intensity IV – General Santos City; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental
- Intensity III – Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental; Alabel, Malapatan, and Maasim, Sarangani; Tupi and Polomolok, South Cotabato
- Intensity II – Glan and Kiamba, Sarangani; City of Koronadal and T’Boli, South Cotabato; City of Digos, Matanao Sta. Cruz, and Malalag, Davao del Sur
- Intensity I – Tampakan and Banga, South Cotabato; Davao City; City of Bislig, Surigao del Sur
Meanwhile, instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas:
- Intensity V – Malungon, Sarangani
- Intensity IV – Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City
- Intensity III – Malapatan, Sarangani; Tupi and Polomolok, South Cotabato;Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental
- Intensity II – City of Digos and Matanao, Davao del Sur; Kiamba, Sarangani; Tampakan and T’Boli, South Cotabato
- Intensity I – Davao City; Magsaysay, Davao del Sur; City of Kidapawan, Cotabato; Pres. Quirino, Sultan Kudarat
Phivolcs said that no aftershocks or damage to property are expected.
