The second Cebu Green Economy Summit gathered representatives from government, academe and the civil society to discuss sustainable development for Metro Cebu.
“We are looking at governance and how to have different cities and municipalities converge for Mega Cebu in terms of infrastructure, governance of common resources, so we can all arrive at the sustainable city,” said Socorro Atega, executive director of Cebu United for Sustainable Water.
The summit also discussed how to make Mega Cebu, which spans 13 localities from Danao City to Caracar, a sustainable sub-region.
Vice Mayor Al Arquillano of San Francisco, Camotes Island, gave a lecture on how to integrate Climate Change adaptation and risk reduction in local planning.
Arquillano and San Francisco town received the 2011 United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva.
“To move forward we are looking atconvergence of communities for sustainable development. We are also looking at public-private sector partnerships as another mode of convergence,” said Atega.
