MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and other authorities, have confiscated more than 8,000 grams of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu in an operation in Cavite.

According to the BOC, the drugs seized had an estimated value of P56 million, and a person who was the consignee of the package was also arrested during the operation on December 19.

The agency added that the package arrived on December 17 from California, USA, and was initially declared as dry food.

The BOC likewise added that this is the largest illegal drug apprehension in the Port of Clark for 2023.

According to BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio, the arrest showed the efforts of the agency in preventing illegal drug trade in the country.

“This arrest only shows that we are steadfast and firm in our efforts to protect the health of our people against the harmful effects of the illicit trade of drugs in the country,” Rubio said.
