MANILA, Philippines — A six-year-old boy has died, while his father was injured in a fire that started in their house in Antipolo City, authorities reported on Sunday.

According to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire occurred in a residential area at Zone 9, Lower Villa Grande, Barangay Cupang on Saturday night.

Firefighters responded to it at 9:30 p.m., and the second alarm was raised four minutes later. The BFP said the incident was declared under control at 10:23 p.m. and the blaze was put off at 11:00 p.m.

“Sa kasamaang palad ay may isang buhay ang nasawi at isang sugatan na kaagad naman naisugod sa pinakamalapit na ospital,” BFP Region IV-A Antipolo Rizal said in a post.

(Unfortunately, one died, while one was injured and was immediately taken to the nearest hospital.)

In a phone interview, FO1 Earl Christopher Eubion of Antipolo City Fire Station identified the owner of the house as Alberto Pelominor.

Eubion told INQUIRER.net that Pelominor sustained burns, while his six-year-old son’s body was found burned inside their house.

“Natagpuan daw po yung katawan na sunog na po,” Eubion said, noting that the boy’s cause of death was not yet included in their report.

(It was said that the body was found burned already.)

“Yung una po, reported po munang missing. After po ng fire operation, saka po natagpuan,” he added.

(At first, the boy was reported missing. After the fire operation, his body was found.)

Eubion said fire investigators are currently on the incident’s location, and an investigation about the fire, including its cause, is still ongoing.

Eubion also said that based on the initial report, 12 to 15 houses were affected by the fire, while its damage was estimated at around P750,000.
