LTO chief reminds motorists not to drink, drive during holiday season

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Sunday revealed that some of the over 24 million unregistered vehicles in the country have previously been registered under different government agencies. apprehended

MANILA, Philippines — Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II told motorists not to engage in drinking sessions when they have to drive back home.

According to Mendoza on Friday, if people have drunk alcoholic beverages, instead of driving, they must have someone to drive for them or they should commute home to stay safe on the road.

“Kabi-kabila na ang mga last minute Christmas parties at good time with friends and co-workers. Kung kaya naman iwasan ay huwag nang uminom at kung hindi talaga maiiwasan ay tiyakin na may magmamaneho sa inyo pauwi, or better yet, mag-commute na lang kayo,” Mendoza said.

The LTO official also asked motorists to remember their loved ones so they will be reminded not to drive while under influence.

“To our motorists, always remember that you have a spouse, whom you promise to grow old with; children, who still depends on you, and family members who are waiting for you in your homes,” said Mendoza.

According to the LTO, an estimated 12,000 people in the Philippines die annually due to road accidents.

“Huwag nating ipalit ang kaunting oras ng kaligayahan sa habang buhay na pagsisisi. Maging responsable tayong motorista para wala tayong problema,” he added.
