LUCENA CITY — Nine crew members of a motorized boat were rescued from their vessel that capsized Friday in Tayabas Bay in San Juan town in Batangas province.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG)-District Southern Tagalog, said in a report on Saturday, Dec. 23, that the outrigger of the ill-fated sea vessel “Hasta Lavista” sustained damage after strong waves battered it around 10 p,m. in the seas off Barangay Laiya.
The boat’s skipper decided to abandon their vessel when it half-submerged.
The PCG personnel and crews of the MV Ocean Dependable, a Danish-flagged vessel, rushed to the site and saved the nine crew members of “Hasta Lavista,” who were all found in safe condition. They were taken to the PCG station in neighboring Lobo town.
The PCG alerted all sea vessels passing in the area to observe precautionary measures on the half-submerged boat.
The report said the 35-ton boat was newly acquired and intended for passenger operations.
It left Dinagat Island in Surigao del Norte province on Dec. 20 and was sailing toward Calatagan, Batangas when the incident happened.
