5 dead in car-truck collision in Batangas

MANILA, Philippines — Five persons were killed while three others were hurt after a road crash early Saturday morning involving a truck and a car in Sto. Tomas town in Batangas.

Initial report from the Philippine National Police-Calabarzon said that both vehicles were traversing a road in Barangay San Miguel when the collision occurred.

“Upon reaching the place of incident at Brgy San Miguel, Sto. Tomas City, Batangas, both vehicles collided with each other,” the report stated.

The report said the five passengers of the car were dead on arrival, while the two other passengers as well as its driver suffered injuries.

Authorities said the truck sustained damage at its front right portion while the car was totally wrecked.

The Region 4A police reported that a truck driven by one alias “Salvador” accidentally collided at 2:50 a.m. with an oncoming Toyota Innova driven by an alias “Lester.”

“Lester” and his seven passengers suffered injuries and were taken to two separate hospitals. However, five of the passengers died on the way.

The police are conducting further investigation.
