MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Thursday asked the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to strengthen existing alliances and establish new partnerships with foreign counterparts.
Marcos made the statement after reiterating his administration’s commitment to support initiatives that will enhance the AFP’s external defense capabilities.

“I enjoin the AFP to enhance existing alliances and partnerships with your foreign counterparts,” Marcos told the troops during the AFP’s 88th anniversary celebration.
“Let us continue to explore so that we may forge new partnerships based on common goals, common values and at the same time advancing the national interest,” he added.

He also lauded the AFP for remaining undeterred by actions “that stir tensions.”
Marcos stressed the government, through the AFP, will remain a “force and voice of reason” in resolving issues in accordance with national and international laws.
