MANILA, Philippines — The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said on Wednesday that it will provide fire insurance for 132,000 public schools under the Department of Education (DepEd).

The one-year insurance will cover the schools against fire, lightning, and natural disasters starting January 1, 2024.

The GSIS said that all in all, the total insurance is worth P843.11 billion.

“With the rising frequency of natural calamities, protecting public school buildings becomes a priority of the government. Our partnership with DepEd is a step towards ensuring financial resilience in support of its MATATAG agenda,” GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso said.

The GSIS likewise added that it has provided a personal accident insurance coverage for DepEd personnel.

“We are committed to look after the well-being of our DepEd members  by providing them with strong insurance protection,” Veloso added.
