MANILA, Philippines — A Quezon City police station chief and two other personnel were removed from their posts after the video of late veteran actor Ronaldo Valdez circulated online.
“Two [police personnel] were relieved. One first responder and one uploader to the Viber group, while the station commander is also relieved under the doctrine of command responsibility,” disclosed Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Director Brigadier General Red Maranan in a Viber message to INQUIRER.net on Wednesday.
Maranan explained that the said video was taken by the first responder, and the other personnel then posted the image to their Viber group.
The two policemen were relieved from their present assignment and reassigned to the District Personnel Holding Admin Section effective Wednesday.
Also, the QCPD chief said they have identified three civilian Facebook accounts “as the first to upload the video and compilation of photos of the incident on Facebook.”
However, Maranan has not divulged the names of these three individuals yet.
These three individuals may face Presidential Decree 1829 (Obstruction of Justice); Republic Act (RA) 10173 also known as the Data Privacy Act of 2012 in relation to RA 10175 or the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012; and violation of other applicable laws.
“Whoever is caught spreading any videos of the victim’s death will be dealt with accordingly,” Maranan said in another statement. “We also encourage the public to give the family time to grieve the passing of their loved one.”
Valdez, 76, died in the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 17, at his home in Quezon City. The QCPD confirmed his death but did not reveal the cause.
The QCPD said in a previous statement that it is thoroughly probing details surrounding the demise of the esteemed television and film actor.
