Their formal meetings are ending Saturday but they will continue to be in safe hands for as long as they are in the country.
This was the assurance given by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday to the more than 4,000 foreign delegates attending the Asian Development Bank (ADB) annual meeting in Manila.
PNP spokesperson Senior Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr. said the police would ensure the security of the VIP guests even after the meeting is over.
In a briefing, Cerbo said the PNP expected some delegates to stay in the country as part of their official or personal trips and that their security escorts would remain with them to keep them safe.
“What we can assure the public and the delegates is that the security provided to them by Task Force ADB will be continuous while they are in the country,” he told reporters.
Task Force ADB, supervised by Deputy Director General Emelito Sarmiento, the PNP deputy chief for operation, was created to oversee the security of all the foreign guests, with some 3,000 police officers fielded for that purpose.
Cerbo said some delegates had been touring various parts of Luzon, including Sta. Rosa in Laguna province, and Tagaytay in Cavite province, and the PNP had provided security on such out-of-town trips.
