MARIVELES, Bataan — A fire broke out early Sunday, Dec. 17, at the coal-fired power plant in Barangay Alas-asin in this town, authorities said.
In a statement, Arcel Madrid, assistant vice president for community relations at GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co., said the plant’s units 1 and 2 had been shut down since Sunday after the suspension of coaling of bunkers caused by “spontaneous combustion that occurred at the crusher house.”
So far, the power situation in Bataan has remained normal.
Madrid said this was the first time that a fire broke out at the power plant.
