MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has appointed Sonia Bautista Malaluan as the new administrator of Maritime Industry Authority (Marina), an attached agency of Department of Transportation (DOTr).
“In appointing Malaluan, President Marcos cited her remarkable training and experience in economics, technology, finance, law, management, public utility and in other aspects of the maritime industry,” the Presidential Communications Office said in a statement on Friday.
Prior to Malaluan’s appointment as Marina chief, Marcos first appointed her as the agency’s Deputy Administrator for Planning on November 23, 2022 upon the recommendation of DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista.
Malaluan replaced Hernani Fabia who tendered his resignation.
PCO said Malaluan is a Certified Public Accountant. She earned her master’s degree in Science in Shipping Management from the World Maritime University in Sweden in 1998.
She also earned her master’s degree in Public Administration from Singapore’s National University, Lee Kwan Yew School of Public Policy in 2011.
