LTO orders thorough inspection of buses amid holiday travel rush
MANILA, Philippines — Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II ordered the inspection of passenger buses in terminals ahead of the expected surge of Christmas season passengers.
Mendoza on Wednesday said the directive is aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the passengers, especially after the incident in Antique where several passengers died when a bus plunged into a ravine.
“I am expecting a regular conduct of inspection on all passenger buses leaving their respective bus terminals. We have to do this because what is at stake is the life and limb of the passengers who just want to reach their destination safely,” Mendoza said.
Mendoza also told other officials to check
Mendoza also ordered regional directors and district office heads to have the mental and physical condition of bus drivers assessed, and to conduct random drug tests.
