TALK ‘N TEXT reserve wingman Larry Fonacier added another feather to his cap as he earned the Player of the Week award in the PBA Governor’s Cup for his career-night last Saturday in their exciting victory over the Powerade Tigers in an out-of-town game in Digos, Davao de Sur.
Fonacier, a Ateneo Blue Eagle, earned the award for the period of June 20 to 26. He scored 27 points in powering the grand-slam-seeking Tropang Texters to an 89-85 win over the resilient Tigers.
Making the feat even more impressive was Fonacier’s marksmanship from beyond the three-point arc, where he drained eight of his 11 attempts.
His last one proved to the difference-maker in the tightly contested match as it broke an 85-all deadlock with just 18 ticks left on the clock.
“He bailed us out,” said Texters coach Chot Reyes of the 2005-06 Rookie of the Year, who came into the game averaging 8.0 points per game. On that particular night, He finished with a 9-of-13 field shooting laced with four rebounds and two assists. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
