MANILA, Philippines — Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has provided over P272 million worth of humanitarian aid to families affected by the shear line in Eastern Visayas.
In November, the weather system brought days of heavy rains and flooding in the region.
DSWD Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs Irene Dumlao said family food packs (FFPs), non-food items, and cash assistance through their Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program were given to people in the region.
It also said families from provinces of Biliran, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Western Samar, and Southern Leyte received a total of 323,301 food boxes amounting to more than P222 million.
“The DSWD Western Visayas is continuously coordinating with the National Resource Operations Center on the delivery of the requested additional FFPs intended for the affected families,” Dumlao said in a press release on Tuesday.
The department also turned over some 584 hygiene kits and 72 kitchen kits to those affected by the weather disturbance in Northern Samar and Western Samar.
According to Dumlao, cash to allow the families to purchase other necessities was also distributed.
Some 17,331 beneficiaries from Northern Samar received financial assistance from the department.
