LIGAO CITY, Albay, Philippines — The newest Bicol University (BU) campus will soon rise in this city in Albay province following its groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Dec. 12.

Baby Boy Benjamin Nebres, BU president, and Mayor Fernando Gonzalez, Rep. Anelyn Sumanga of Ako Bicol partly-list, and officials of the Department of Public Works and Highways joined the groundbreaking ceremony for the campus.

The P250-million project, which will be completed by 2024, is situated in Barangay Tuburan and will cater to students coming from different Bicol provinces.

“The Bicol University Ligao, which is approved by the board of regents, will not only offer veterinary medicine, but more courses that are industry-based within the vision of the university for humanity and we would like to thank Committee on Appropriations Chair and Ako Bicol Rep. Elizaldy Co, Albay 3rd district Rep. Fernando Cabredo and other partners for the realization of the project,” Nebres said.

Gonzalez said the establishment of BU in Ligao is a breakthrough for the city, as well as for the district.

“We don’t have a veterinary school around here. I think the nearest one is in Naga [City in Camarines Sur] so it will give tremendous opportunities for Albayanos and the rest of nearby provinces,” he said.

BU’s main campus is in Legazpi City.
