MANILA, Philippines — Most areas of the country may have predominantly fair weather on Tuesday, although isolated rain showers could not be ruled out, the state weather service said.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), two weather systems may influence Tuesday’s atmospheric conditions: easterlies and northeast monsoon.

The easterlies are warm winds blowing from the Pacific Ocean, while the northeast monsoon, locally known as amihan, is a cool breeze blowing from the northeast.

“Currently, the northeast monsoon or ‘hanging amihan’ prevails in the extreme northern part of Luzon, and we expect that by this afternoon until tonight, it will also affect other parts of Luzon,” Pagasa weather specialist Patrick del Mundo said in Filipino during an early morning public report.

“We still expect the continued presence of the easterlies in the remaining areas of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao,” he said.

The easterlies, del Mundo noted, will bring hot and humid weather in many areas of the country.

“The weather continues to be generally fair, although isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are occurring,” he said.

Batanes and Babuyan Islands may expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains due to the northeast monsoon on Tuesday, Pagasa also said.

For the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms are likely, but generally fair weather conditions are expected throughout the day, it added.

The state weather agency also said that Visayas and Mindanao are also likely to experience mainly fair weather with the possibility of occasional isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

State meteorologists said they are still not seeing any low-pressure area within or outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

No gale warning was issued along the country’s seaboards for Tuesday.
