2024 Bar exam to be conducted Sept. 8, 11, 15

MANILA, Philippines — The 2024 Bar Examination will again be conducted in September based on the Bar Bulletin No. 1 issued by the Office of the Bar Chairperson.

Associate Justice Mario V. Lopez is the chair of next year’s Bar exam set for September 8, 11 and 15, 2024.

“The 2024 Bar Examinations #MostValuableLaban will bridge the gap between the study and practice of law and will usher qualified examinees in their transition from law students to ‘practice-ready’ and ‘potentially capable’ lawyers,” read the Bar Bulletin No. 1.

Aside from the schedule, the first bulletin contains the modality, coverage, and syllabi for the six subjects.

“The questions will be geared toward practical skills and jurisprudential perspectives to evince analytical and problem-solving abilities, a strong sense of ethics, professionalism, empathy for clients, and commitment to public service as minimum benchmarks for admission to the practice of law,” Lopez said.

The six core subjects will be retained — Political and Public International Law, Commercial and Taxation Laws, Civil Law, Labor Law and Social Legislation, Criminal Law, Remedial Law, and Legal and Judicial Ethics with Practical Exercises.

Following the previous Bar exams, Lopez said next year’s examination will remain digitalized and regionalized with a condensed schedule and multiple examiners.

The digital and regionalized examination was first adopted during the 2020/21 Bar examination while the country was still reeling from the effects of the pandemic. The chairman of the 2020/21 was Senior Associate Justice Marvic Leonen.

“Matters regarding the application procedures, venues of local testing centers, and other guidelines in the conduct of the 2024 Bar Examinations will be announced in subsequent bar bulletin,” Bulletin No. 1 stated.
