MANILA, Philippines — Senator Franklin Drilon dared Chief Justice Renato Corona to open and explain his dollar deposits when the impeachment trial resumes next week.

The statement came a week after report show that Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales gave Corona 72 hours to explain his alleged $10 million worth of dollar deposits.

Corona has denied owning such amounts but maintained that the Ombudsman has no jurisdiction over an impeachable official.

Drilon urged the embroiled official not to run to his colleagues at the Supreme Court and ask that it issue a temporary restraining order against the Ombudsman.

“I am hoping that the Chief Justice will not do that since it will contradict his earlier claim that he had nothing to hide as far as his bank accounts are concerned,” the lawmaker added.
