The 6th Gabii sa Kabilin (Night of Heritage) will try to capture the imagination of the young with Cebu’s rich history.
The annual open house of Cebu’s museums, 21 in all this year, is slated on May 25, Friday.
It will feature children’s activities and a technology-based QR code hunt game targeting the youth.
Storytelling, arts and crafts making, the native game of sungka, visual arts and tai chi demonstrations are part of this year’s program.
Amaya Aboitiz of Dolores Aboitiz Foundation said it was important to have activities for children. Organizers observed that in past museum events, while adults viewed the exhibits, children were running around not paying attention to the wealth of Cebuano heritage.
Internet savvy and “techie” youth gets to participate in a QR code hunt designed by telecom firm Smart Communications in partnership with mycebu.ph.
Historical information about a featured heritage site can be scanned, downloaded and translated in participants’ mobile phones.
Visitors can also check Google Map for the exact location and valuable informationabout heritage sites in Cebu City.
Six new institutions will join this year’s biggest heritage event in Cebu. They are Ayala Center Cebu Cinema and The Terraces, Fo Guang Shan Chu Un Temple, BPI Museum, CAP Theater, JRG Halad Museum, and University of San Carlos Museum.
This year’s event will start with a Mass at the Sacred Heart Parish church on D. Jakosalem Street, which is celebrating its 60th founding anniversary.
A total of 21 museums and cultural sites in Cebu City and Mandaue City will be open to the public. A Gabii Sa Kabilin ticket for P150 gives you access to all the museums.
