Magnitude 5 quake hits Cagayan town

TUGUEGARAO CITY—A magnitude 5.1 earthquake rattled Dalupiri island in Calayan, Cagayan Wednesday afternoon, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

Phivolcs said the earthquake, which was recorded at 2:19 p.m., was tectonic in origin and had a depth of nine kilometers.

It was felt at intensity IV in Calayan and intensity II in Pasuquin and the City of Laoag in Ilocos Norte.

Instrumental intensities were also recorded in Pasuquin, Ilocos Norte; Candon, Ilocos Sur, and Aparri, Cagayan (Intensity 2), and Peñablanca and Gonzaga in Cagayan and City of Laoag (Intensity 1).

No damage to property or infrastructure were reported.
